Maria Fedotova was born in St.Petersburg in the family of musicians. Her musical talent emerged early and at the age of 5 she took up music. At 7 she entered a special musical school by the conservatoire and at the age of 8 she began her first public performances with the chamber orchestra of the Maryinsky Theatre and together with her father — flutist Vladimir Fedotov. She actively played a traditional flute and also took up “authentic baroque”, learning stylistics and methods of playing antique instruments &nmdash; bloc-flute, traverse flute. In 1996 she graduated from the St.Petersburg conservatoire and post-graduate course of Prof. A.M.Vaviline-Mravinsky.

In 1991, while still in the Conservatoire, Maria Fedotova became a soloist of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra and played various pieces for the flute with orchestra. The Permiere in Russia of a concerto for the flute with the orchestra of Ch. Rose held in 1997 in Moscow (the Conservatoire's Great Hall) and in Vienna(Musikverein) was one of the most vivid events in her work with the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra.

Maria Fedotova actively and creatively works as a soloist, regularly plays with the orchestra of the St.Petersburg's Phiharmonic Society (artistic director Yuri Temirkanov), the Lithuanian State Chamber Orchestra (artistic director Saulyus Sondetskis), the Musika Viva orchestra (artistic director Alexander Rudin), the Kremerata Baltika orchestra (artistic director Gidon Kremer), the “Soloists of Moscow” orchestra (artistic director Yuri Bashmet), the symphony orchestras of Nizhni Novrogod and Krasnoyarsk. She also performed with the orchestras of Metropolitana de Lisboa and Klassik Philharmonie Hamburg.

Maria took part in lots of international festivals. Among them were “Snow and Symphony” (St.Moritz, Switzerland), “Elmau Schlos” (Germany), “December Nights” (Moscow), “St.Petersburg's Palaces”, “Bach at la transcription” (France). In 2003 she played in the Universal orchestra of the world headed by V. Gergiyev.

At the invitation of Gidon Kremer she took part in the festivals in Gstaad (Switzerland) in 1997, 1998 ãã., in Lockenhaus (Austria) in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2003, participated in the recording of “Maria de Buenos Aires” by Astor Piazzolla and in the world tour of this tango-operita over Europe, America, Japan, and in Baltic Republics in 1998, 1999. Among the programmes with Kremer were “Musical Gifts” by Ioghan S. Bach “..nach Schubert” for the flute, violin and string orchestra of S. Gubaidulina, quartets by V.A.Mozart, premiere of a piece by G.Kancheli for the flute and the orchestra, “A Visit to the Childhood”, compositions by B.Britten, P.Vahi, and others.

She gave master classes at the international youth festival in Kaunas (Lithuania), in Yokogama School (Japan), in Academia Metropolitana de Lisboa (Portugal).

In the chamber orchestra Maria played with G. Kremer, Y. Bashmet, T. Grindenko, M. Petri, A.Knyazev, M. Burg, P. Vispelveev, S.Stradler, V. Sakharov, young talented performers among whom are A. Ogrinchuk, M. Postingel, I. Fedotov, M. Sudraba, U.Uliena, A. Melnikov, N. Kool, A.Verkholantseva. In 2000, Maria Fedotova gave a set of her own concerts with the involvement of Moscow's best young musicians and theatre actors. In 2002 she as a soloist worked in cooperation with Klassik Philharmonie Hamburg.

Maria offered plenty of premiere performances of music by composers of the 20th century and contemporaries: L. Berstein, G. Kancheli, B. Tischenko, A.Davydov, V.Yanarchekova, P. Vahi, Ch. Rose, N. Popema, Kurtaga and also forgotten or rarely performed masterpieces of old-time masters.

Since 2002 Maria has been invited as a soloist to Klassik Philarmonie Hamburg (Hamburg Mozart-orchester), with R. Stehlli as a conductor. At present her repertoire includes compositions of various styles from the baroque epoch to modern vanguard. Being a critical and responsible musician, Maria is equally careful both about her popular flute repertoire and to the compositions she performs for the first time.
