After winning the «A. Belli» International Competition of Spoleto, Luciana D’Intino made her debut as Azucena in Il trovatore and was finalist at the «Maria Callas » International Competition promoted by the Italian Television.

One of the today’s most appreciated mezzo-sopranos, Luciana D’Intino has sung under the baton of such conductors as Semyon Bychkov, Myung-Whun Chung, Colin Davis, James Levine, Lorin Maazel, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti.

Of Luciana D’Intino’s performance of Aida at the Royal Opera House-Covent Garden in London, the Sunday Times wrote: «a glorious mezzo soprano...the most exciting Italian singer in her role in the last years». Recently, she also gained personal success singing Don Carlo at the Bayerische Staatsoper, at the Opéra de Montecarlo, at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma and at the Opernhaus in Zurich (L’Opera wrote: «the best singer was Luciana D’Intino, Eboli «tigre al cor ferita che alla vendetta l’offesa invita». The mezzo soprano shows an extensive interpretative range...»). In the 2004/05 season she made her Metropolitan Opera’s debut singing Don Carlo.

She has been heard in the most important theatres of the world: in Italy at the Teatro alla Scala, Teatro La Fenice di Venezia, Teatro Comunale di Firenze, Teatro Comunale di Bologna, Teatro dell’Opera di Roma, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, Arena Sferisterio of Macerata, Teatro Regio di Torino, Teatro Massimo di Palermo, Teatro Filarmonico di Verona, Teatro Verdi di Trieste, as well as at the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro; abroad in such opera houses as the Wiener Staatsoper, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Opernhaus in Zurich, Metropolitan Opera in New York, Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, Opéra National in Paris, Nederlandse Opera in Amsterdam, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Teatro Municipal of Santiago de Chile, Teatro La Maestranza of Seville, Teatro Reál in Madrid, Semperoper of Dresden, and also, among other cities, in Köln, Frankfurt, Marseille, Bilbao, Santander, Tokyo and Peking.

Her repertoire includes such operas as Samson et Dalilah, Carmen, Il trovatore, Aida, Don Carlo, La forza del destino, Adriana Lecouvreur, Cavalleria rusticana, Falstaff, la Favorite, Norma, La Gioconda, as well as Verdi’s Messa da Requiem, but she was heard also in I Capuleti e i Montecchi, Guglielmo Tell, La gazza ladra, Aureliano in Palmira, Tancredi, Il barbiere di Siviglia, Così fan tutte, L’assedio di Calais, La favorita, Werther, Oedipus Rex, L’italiana in Algeri, Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle.

She has just had a warm success performing Don Carlo at the Opernhaus in Zurich, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Teatro Regio di Parma and at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna and Aida at the Metropolitan in New York.

Her future engagements include, among others, Boris Godunov at the Opernhaus in Zürich (May ’08), Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Musikverein in Wien (under the baton of Riccardo Muti, Jun ‘08), Don Carlo at the Wiener Staatsoper (Jun ‘8), Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Chorégies d'Orange, Don Carlo at the Semperoper in Dresden (Sept ’09), Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Liceu in Barcelona (Oct ’08), Samson et Dalila at the Teatro Filarmonico in Verona (Mar ’09), Il trovatore at the Metropolitan (Apr 09), Aida at the Semperoper in Dresden (May ’09), at the Wiener Staatsoper (Jun ’09), at the Teatro alla Scala (Jul ’09) and in Tel Aviv (La Scala tour; Jul ’09), Aida and Verdi’s Messa da Requiem in Japan (La Scala tour; Sept ’09), Don Carlo at the Wiener Staatsoper (Oct ’09), Il trovatore at the Liceu in Barcelona (Dec ’09).

The 2006/07 has also brought her to perform as Eboli (Don Carlo) at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich, at the Opernhaus in Zürich, at the Wiener Staatsoper, in Santiago del Chile and at the Tanglewood Festival in Boston, La Favorite at the Wiener Staatsoper, Adriana Lecouvreur at Teatro alla Scala ed Aida at the Opernhaus in Zürich.

She maintains a busy concert schedule, having performed chamber and symphonic music of the eighteenth and of the nineteenth century, Lieder and Spanish songs.
